Christmas pudding Sunday. Parish members familiar with the Book of Common Prayer will
remember that this coming Sunday was known as “The Sunday next before Advent” and the
Collect for the day began with the words “Stir up, O Lord, we beseech thee”. Busy housewives
in earlier years would take this day and those words as reminders that it was time to start making
the Christmas puddings, as in “stir up!”
That Collect has been moved in the Book of Alternative Services.

Outreach

Breakfast program
This past Saturday was a very busy morning for the breakfast team. Our friends were lined up
early and eager to have a bowl of porridge and a hot coffee. Through the 90 minutes we were
open, we served 136 meals, although we all thought it felt like more. Friends are very
appreciative of the clothes, household goods, and toiletries that we have on hand. Our volunteers
will hold appropriate clothes for friends when they sort new arrivals, demonstrating that we see,
know and care about their individual needs. We give great thanks and prayers for your support for
this valuable ministry- thank you!
The next breakfast is Saturday December 7th. All are welcome to join us!

St. Paul’s Food Bank. Our next Food Bank Sunday is 8th December, perhaps an opportunity to
do something special for Christmas, like Christmas Share. Laura has sent in some background
on this food bank: St Paul’s Social Services ( now called Paul’s Place) have been providing food
and assistance to their vulnerable neighbours for over 40 years. A ministry that began with a simple
and small pantry has grown to a 5 day a week operation. Hundreds of needy people come through
their doors each week. Each person crossing their threshold is seeking help. The staff of the Food
Bank seek to respect the dignity of every guest they meet. They feel they can only do so because
of the faithful and dedicated service of their volunteers and generosity of their donors. Thank you
for St Jude’s participation.
