Trivia!!
It’s time again for St. Jude’s Trivia Night- this Saturday evening, March 1st, at 7pm. Teams of
6-8 people are welcome for a night of fun, as they engage the trivia portion of their brains to
answer 100 diverse questions. If you wish to come, but don’t have a full team, please sign up and
we will add others to your group if they are available. Tickets cost $ 20 per person, and are
available from Derek Shadlock and David Belford. Snacks will be provided. There will be a
cash bar selling wine and beer. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 519-660-6198.
Final pre Trivia practice question: F1 driver Lewis Hamilton was overwhelmingly voted as the
“GOAT.” Insult or what??
Pancake Supper. As is our custom, on Shrove Tuesday, 4th March, we shall have our annual
Pancake Supper for the community, 5 – 7.00 pm. By freewill donation, and hosted by the Parish
Council members, but extra volunteer help is always needed and welcome. Speak to the office
if you can help. 519-660-6198.
Outreach
Outreach for February concentrates on St. Paul’s Food Bank and our Breakfast Program.
St. Paul’s Food Bank. Our next Food Bank Sunday is Sunday, 9th March.
Breakfast program
The warmer weather this week has been a great break from the frigid temperatures we’ve lived
with in February. The melting snow is everywhere and makes it hard to keep boots and gloves
dry. Please consider donating your old boots or warm coats to our breakfast friends as some of
theirs are pretty thread bare. We are always looking for toiletries so if you happen to see some
on sale or at the Dollar Store – they will be put to good use. We are trying out a new breakfast
burrito this week – a little more work for the kitchen crew but hopefully more filling and
nutritious for our friends.
The next breakfast is this Saturday, March 1st between 9 and 10:30 am. Please join us for
coffee to see how your donations make a difference in the lives of those who join us.
Learning Together
Lenten series. Fr. Kevin will be leading a discussion series on three Tuesdays in Lent,
(18th and 25th March, and 1st April), about sharing our faith.
Also, he has posted this message on the church Facebook page:
The Heart Sees Further” – The season of Lent is an opportunity to be more intentional about
the spiritual life. Starting on March 5th, at noon, tune in to St Jude’s Facebook page for this
weekly, online reflection. “The Heart Sees Further” will develop themes meant to enrich our
lives as followers of Jesus. A new post will appear each Wednesday at noon. Through Lent, we
will consider the Prayer-Filled Life starting with a reflection on Ash Wednesday informed by
Julian of Norwich. After that, our Lenten theme will be informed by insights from Henri
Nouwen, Evelyn Underhill, Thomas Merton, the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing,
Agnes Sanford, Martin Luther, and Simone Weil. It is a genuine asset to be soaked in devotional
classics like these.
Please remember to check your Facebook page each Wednesday.
Diocese of Huron Diocesan Council Highlights (from February 5th) have been posted
in the Narthex. Situated on the bulletin board next to the main sanctuary entrance. This is a
new communication initiative to update the whole diocese on highlights following each Diocesan
Council meeting. As there is information about Bishops Todd’s vision plan “Turning to Grace”
accepted at Synod, church members should avail themselves of this information.
Let’s Celebrate
Happy birthday this week to Andy S. (23rd February and Cheryle Anne M. (25th)
Trivia answer; Definitely a compliment; it means “Greatest Of All Time.”
