Outreach

Outreach for June
In June, it’s the men’s turn!
Men’s Mission: providing emergency shelter for an individual or family, or caring for those with mental health needs Mission Services of London is there with a message of hope through faith serving those who struggle with poverty and homelessness. They provide food, shelter, clothing, crisis intervention and rehabilitation. Needs: gloves, toiletries, razors, underwear, wallets.
Unity Project: working to stabilize people in their moment of crisis and to engage them in their own process toward stability while utilizing all available community resources. Housing (with supports) is the solution to homelessness and we will continue to develop our program around
this outcome for participants. Needs: socks, bus tickets, t-shirts,small backpacks, razors, underwear, coffee mugs.

Our next Paul’s Place food bank Sunday is July 12th.
Our June donations are down somewhat, so let’s try to pick it up for July, fresh stuff especially. Please remember that you don’t have to wait for the Food Bank Sunday to bring your gifts, you can come any morning in the week with them - useful to know if you are not able to come on the Sunday.

Breakfast Program We continue to serve upwards of 10 new people at our bimonthly community breakfast. Our team members work hard to get to know the stories of all who come and it is very humbling to hear how people find their way to survive in the some very difficult circumstance. It is thanks to your generosity and the talents of our volunteers that we can provide some care and relief to our siblings in need.
We are now planning for the October 5Km Run/Walk partnership with St. John's. The funds raised through the event augment the program budget. However, we still depend on the monthly donations from our St. Jude's families and friends to provide this vital outreach ministry to our community year round. Some other meal programms close their doors through July and August - usually because their volunteers aren't available. This can mean increased numbers for St. Jude's and your donations help us to absorb the costs accrued. Sharing your leftover "harvests" is another way to help our visitors and friends - fresh fruits and vegetables from your garden or local road side stand are really appreciated. Lettuce, tomatoes, garlic, rhubarb and anything else that is fresh is snapped up very quickly. Come and check us out on any of the 1st or 3rd Saturdays of the month. Have a coffee or a bowl of porridge and a conversation with our guests or volunteers. We would love to see you!
Our next breakfast is this Saturday June 20th from 9 - 10:30 am in the All Saints Hall.

Also in June: Strawberries for St. Jude’s Breakfast. Financial donations will be appreciated to provide fresh strawberries for the next community breakfast, 20th June.

Fundraising and Social

The Fund Raising Social Committee wants us to remember this year’s Church Picnic is on Sunday June 28th, after the 10:00 service. Hosted in All Saints Hall, Burgers and Hot Dogs supplied and potluck salads and desserts. Free will offering.

Men’s Coffee Tuesday 23rd June at 10.00 am in the LGC Room - bring a friend!!

Craft Room Coordinator: We are in urgent need of a volunteer to take on coordinating activities in the Craft Room - St. Martha's room. The crafts worked on by the team are sold in quantity at the Christmas Bazaar and also throughout the year. The coordinator keeps track of the inventory, suggests new items to make, and buys supplies as needed. While the usual crafting day has been Wednesday, this can be changed to accommodate new crafters. Our retiring Coordinator Nancey Orosz is happy to orient and help the new volunteer. Interested? Have questions? Contact the office at 519-660-6198.

Barbara McGregor
Robert Edwards would like to invite all who remember Barbara McGregor, a parishioner who moved to Barry's Bay a few years ago to be closer to family, to her Celebration of Life here at St Jude’s in the LGC room on July 11th, from 1:30-4:00pm. Barbara passed away November 5th , 2025.

Learning Together

Today’s Message “I've Got That Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy (Down in My Heart)” is based on Philippians 4:4–9 and is the second among three “Crazy Eight” sermons – short reflections of approximately eight minutes each. On this joyful Sunday, which also marks Father’s Day, National Indigenous Day of Prayer, and the first day of summer, this sermon explores how lasting joy is found not in circumstances but in God’s presence, and in the lives we help build for others across generations.

Exploring the Epistle to the Ephesians St. John the Evangelist (where Bill Ward is now the rector), has invited St. Jude’s to join an online study of Ephesians on Wednesdays, 7:00-8:00 pm, throughout the summer. These sessions will be facilitated by Tom Mawlam who is the licensed lay reader at St. John’s. Please speak to Father Kevin and sign up in the narthex.

Education for Ministry (EfM) Open House EfM is a small group experience focussed on how faith connects and is lived in everyday life. One of EfM’s face-t0-face mentoring groups meets at St. Jude’s on Tuesday mornings. Interested in learning more? Attend the upcoming virtual Open House on August 26th. Reach out at EFM@huron.anglican.ca to learn more. Also, speak to Sharon Frank here at St. Jude’s who is an EfM mentor.

The Heart Sees Further – Each Wednesday, Father Kevin offers a brief spiritual reflection on St. Jude’s Facebook page. The current series is called The Interior Castle, based on a piece of classic, devotional writing by St. Teresa of Ávila. As you view each reflection, please hit “like” and “share.”
