Outreach
Outreach for July
In July we concentrate on the St. Paul’s food bank, and our own breakfast program. Also, even though school has just started the summer break, it’s time to think about backpacks and school supplies.
St. Paul's Foodbank
Our next Paul’s Place food bank Sunday is this Sunday, 12th July.
Donations are down somewhat, so let’s try to pick it up for July, fresh stuff especially. Please remember that you don’t have to wait for the Food Bank Sunday to bring your gifts, you can come any morning in the week with them - useful to know if you are not able to come on the Sunday.
Breakfast Program
W e served 122 breakfasts this past Saturday. The treat of the week was fresh strawberries, enjoyed by all. We have lost some of our teen volunteers as they move into summer and weekend jobs. We are happy for them and always grateful for their help over the past years. We have space for more teen volunteers so please feel free to recruit your children or
grandchildren who may be looking for volunteer hours. Our next breakfast is Saturday July 18th from 9 to 10:30 am. All are welcome to join us.
Alongside Hope’s Venezuela Earthquake Response. You can donate by calling at 1-866-308-7973, or mail a cheque to Alongside Hope, 80 Hayden Street, 3rd Floor, Toronto, ON, Canada, M4Y 3G2. Please indicate “Venezuela” in the memo field. The federal government will match donations up to a maximum of $2 million if you donate before 16th
July. Please continue to pray for the Venezuelan people.
LUSO Summer Snack Program – LUSO supports newcomers recently arrived in Canada. St. Jude’s makes space available for LUSO’s programs. Volunteers are needed to help with food prep and/or delivery driving. The commitment is usually 8:00-9:00 am on Mondays. An info sheet is available in the narthex. For more info, please contact amy.williams@ymcaswo.ca.
Fundraising and Social
Please note that the gift cards will not be available this coming Sunday as Rick was unable to order the cards this past Monday. He will be able to complete the ordering of the cards this coming Monday.
Thankyou for your patience and understanding.
Advance notice!!
Hold this Date! Please join us for a fun game or two of mini-putt on September 19th, 3:45 pm at Tin Cup, on Adelaide St. a short distance from the church. There was a very good turnout of enthusiastic putters last year. This is an all ages event. Please invite your friends. There will be a casual dinner at the church immediately after we finish playing. Cost to play is $14.99 + tax for one or two games (18 holes each). Putters and balls will be provided. Suggested contribution to the cost of the meal will be provided closer to the event. We will likely have pizza again this year. Please contact David Belford at belford.david@gmail .com if you plan to come, or if you have any questions. Thanks and have a great summer!
5K Run/Walk
Planning is officially underway for the 5K Run/ Walk with St. John’s! The date is Sunday October 18th. This event is a great fundraiser for our breakfast program that serves the most vulnerable members of our community. To make this year’s race a success, we are looking for sponsors. We are asking for your help to expand our reach. Please take a moment to think about your own network. Do you know local business owners, vendors, individuals or community leaders who value giving back? Please share this opportunity with them. By becoming a sponsor, they will gain local visibility while directly supporting life-changing food security programs right here in our neighbourhood.
The three levels of sponsorship are;
Gold. $5,000 +
Sliver $2,500 +
Bronze $1,000 +
If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the office at 519-660-6198, or any member of the Breakfast Program team for more details. Thank you for your continued prayers, generosity, and support!
The St. John’s 5K Race Team.
