Sunday’s Sermon

Sunday’s is the last of our Crazy Eights sermons, which are meant to be brief, eight-minute reflections for sunny (smoky?) summer mornings. Today’s message, based on Jesus’ Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds in Matthew 13 is entitled “The Root, Not Just the Stem.”

Outreach

Outreach for July
In July we concentrate on the St. Paul’s food bank, and our own breakfast program. Also, even though school has just started the summer break, it’s time to think about backpacks and school supplies.

St. Paul's Foodbank
Our next Paul’s Place food bank Sunday is Sunday, 11th August. Donations were still down, so can we make a better effort for August, when it’s harvest time for many things?

Breakfast Program
Many thanks to our hardy volunteers who brave all types of weather, including this hot and dry season, to prep and serve at our twice monthly breakfast. We have space for more teen volunteers so please feel free to recruit your children or grandchildren who may be looking for volunteer hours. Our next breakfast is this Saturday July 18th from 9 to 10:30 am. All are welcome to join us.

Alongside Hope’s Venezuela Earthquake Response. You can donate by calling at 1-866-308-7973, or mail a cheque to Alongside Hope, 80 Hayden Street, 3rd Floor, Toronto, ON, Canada, M4Y 3G2. Please indicate “Venezuela” in the memo field. The federal government will match donations up to a maximum of $2 million if you donate before 16th July. Please continue to pray for the Venezuelan people.

LUSO Summer Snack Program – LUSO supports newcomers recently arrived in Canada. St. Jude’s makes space available for LUSO’s programs. Volunteers are needed to help with food prep and/or delivery driving. The commitment is usually 8:00-9:00 am on Mondays. An info sheet is available in the narthex. For more info, please contact amy.williams@ymcaswo.ca

5K Run/Walk
Planning is officially underway for the 5K Run/ Walk with St. John’s! The date is Sunday October 18th. This event is a great fundraiser for our breakfast program that serves the most vulnerable members of our community. To make this year’s race a success, we are looking for sponsors. We are asking for your help to expand our reach. Please take a moment to think about your own network. Do you know local business owners, vendors, individuals or community leaders who value giving back? Please share this opportunity with them. By becoming a sponsor, they will gain local visibility while directly supporting life-changing food security programs right here in our neighbourhood.
The three levels of sponsorship are;
Gold. $5,000 +
Sliver $2,500 +
Bronze $1,000 +
 If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to the office at stjudeslondon@diohuron.org or 519-660-6198, or any member of the Breakfast Program team for more details. Thank you for your continued prayers, generosity, and support!
