On Canada Day – July 1st – join in solidarity to recognize the lives lost in the residential school systems in Canada. The walk begins at 10 am in Victoria Park. Why wear orange on that day? This is the colour to highlight the impact of residential schools on indigenous nations. Why? A new orange shirt was given to Phyllis Webstad by her grandmother for her first day of school at St. Joseph’s Mission residential school in British Columbia. When Phyllis got to school, as part of assimilation, they stripped away her clothes, including her new shirt. It was never returned.

Covid precautions in place so please wear a mask and distance.
