Summer services.
Beginning this week, Sunday 25th June, we switch to just one service of Holy Eucharist at
9.30 am each week. This will run until September.
The service on 25th June is an extra special one because we shall be having baptisms, which
hasn’t happened for a while, so get up a little earlier and plan on attending this very special
event.

A message from the Sunday School
Good day everyone. We are having a Baptism this Sunday, June 25th, and the Sunday School
would like your help in a gift for Ian and Elliott.
There will be a large “tree” at the front door on Sunday which I would like everyone to add their
finger/thumb print to for the boys.
I will have the inkpads and wipes available.
We will be presenting the Family Tree picture to the boys at their Baptism as they become
official members of the St. Jude’s Family.
Thank you for your help
Cindy Warner and the Sunday School class.

The church office is open Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Outreach

Outreach Ministry of the Month for June: Helping men in our community. This month we
support two organizations that work with men in crisis and struggling with mental health and
addiction issues.
Mission Services provides food, emergency shelter, clothing, crisis intervention and
rehabilitation programs.
The Unity Project works to stabilize people in their moment of crisis and to engage them in their
own process toward lasting stability utilizing all available community resources. They work with
clients and other agencies to combat homelessness through finding housing with wrap around
supports.
Needed: toiletries, razors, underwear, socks, wallets, bus tickets, t-shirts, small backpacks, and
coffee mugs. Donations can be placed in the box in the Narthex – thank you.

Breakfast Program.
Another record for the number of breakfasts served this past Saturday – 100. While we are
blessed to be able to offer food, clothing and toiletries to those in need, it is a grim reminder that
so many in our community are food insecure and struggling to make ends meet. The generosity
of our parish family and friends is outstanding – thank you.
We are in need of men’s clothing as the cupboard is bare. Please take a look in your closet for
any shirts, shorts, pants etc. that you are ready to send to a new home. We have also had a
request for bath towels.
Please keep those who join us on Saturday mornings in your prayers. Our next breakfast is
Saturday July 1st, Canada Day, and we’ll be serving fresh strawberries as the treat of the
week. All are welcome.

Bakers needed. With the rise in our numbers at the Breakfast programme, we are looking for
more bakers. Volunteers donate 2 dozen home made muffins, or 3 dozen treats, according to
the schedule. Treats are usually rice Krispy squares, Brownies or other items that travel well.
Please contact the office at 519-660-6198 or [email protected]

St. Paul’s Food Bank
Our next Food Bank Sunday is Sunday, 9th July.

Fundraising

FundScrip Remember that the new way we can now order the cards, instead of going to Rick’s
home. Joanne and Dennis Johns will set up a table in the Narthex on the first Sunday of the
month and take your card orders there. The cards will similarly be available in the Narthex
when they arrive. This new and convenient arrangement will begin 2nd July.

This Saturday, June 24th at 12:30, there will be a Strawberry Social at St Jude’s, a served lunch with
strawberry desserts. The cost is be $25.00 per person, those 12 and under will be $10.00. Tickets
are available from the office. We are also planning a garden sale of plants – indoor and outdoor,
and a few garden-themed items, and will be grateful for donations of some of your cuttings, etc.

Save the Dates

Indigenous Ministries and LAIC invite you to NATIONAL INDIGENOUS DAY OF
PRAYER, an event in celebration with our Indigenous siblings in Christ!
Join us for a service of worship and culture at H.M. Royal Chapel of the Mohawks, followed by
fellowship and food, on June 25th at 2.00 PM, (301 Mohawk St, Brantford ON).

PRIDE PARADE a message from Dennis J.
Joanne and I had walked in the annual Pride Parade for many years when my bride had the bright
idea to see if the church wanted to take part. We approached the parish seven years ago, and
along with Pat and Sean Lynch, organized the first St. Judes contingent to take part.
That first year, we had 27 folks under the “St. Jude’s and St. Alban’s” banner proudly – and
joyously – walk with thousands of Londoners who support inclusion and human rights for all.
Some of our parishioners did not walk the entire route, but jumped in near Victoria Park
(including a very vocal Mary Anne and Ray C who brought water bottles for the whole
group) and the party after. Others cheered us from the sides of Queen St; Helen P brought a
large group of folks from her retirement home right on Queen St. out to the sidewalk with
rainbow flags.
Every parade since, the church has taken part, but our numbers have dwindled every year – due
to folks being away on holiday, having other commitments, or, even though the spirit was
willing, not being physically able to take part. Last year, we had five walkers (who alternated
carrying the banner and passing out candies to the hundreds of kids who line the parade route)
and our usual two “rollers” (you can guess who, and who, God bless them, have been there every
year). This year’s parade is Sunday, July 23rd. It starts around noon (after church!) and is usually done
by 3 pm (although we customarily celebrate somewhere afterwards).
Joanne and I will be walking under any circumstance, but before we register the church, we
would like to see how folks would like to, and can, join us and if it is, indeed feasible. Hence, if
you are interested can you let us know at your earliest convenience by calling the office at 519-660-6198.

Let’s Celebrate

Happy Birthday this week to Dennis J (21st June). Hope you have a happy day!!

And, congratulations to Cathy-Lee and John B, who celebrate their wedding anniversary
on 23rd June, and Trish M-F and Ben F, who celebrate on 24th June.

Updates. This being the beginning of our Summer arrangements, we like to take a little break,
so regular Updates may not occur as usual. However, anything the parish needs to know will be
sent as necessary. Have a great Summer, everyone!!
