Lent is fast approaching, this being the last Sunday before Lent, which begins on
Ash Wednesday, 14th February, with the service of Holy Eucharist and Imposition of Ashes at
7.30 pm. Now is the time to bring your palms from last year into the church or office so that
they can be used to prepare the ashes for that service.
The day before (13th), Shrove Tuesday, is the day for our annual Pancake supper, which will be
hosted as usual by Parish Council members, and served from 5 – 7 pm. There is a goodwill
offering for this supper, the proceeds of which, with an added donation from our Outreach Fund,
are taken to the Diocesan Synod for the Huron Hunger Fund (PWRDF).

Outreach

Outreach for February concentrates on or Community Breakfast Program, February 17th,
and the St. Paul’s Food Bank, February 11th. If you have any questions please contact Cheryle
Anne at [email protected].

Breakfast Program
There were 124 at last Saturday’s breakfast, where we served the ever popular quiche casserole
as the hot entrée. As a trial, we converted the coffee/tea/hot chocolate station from we-serve to
self-serve (with supervision) with reasonable success.
We have found that putting all the personal care items on a trolley and wheeling it around the
room, allows for more control on the products as well as more interaction with our Breakfast
Friends.
We were given 4 pairs of size 11 and 12 men’s and women’s shoes and boots which were all
scooped up quickly. One woman in particular now has warm boots.
We were recently given a 4XL men’s winter coat and gloves, which were given away today to a
most appreciative man.
We have received donations of personal care items ,as well as purchased some, with funds
provided by the Outreach Committee. We are very thankful for this support!!! Since about 70%
of our clientele is male, shaving gel, Gillette razors (they last for several shaves over the
non-branded varieties), and men’s deodorant are the most requested items.
We had requests for
– body wash
– Shampoo & conditioner
– Men’s shoes and boots size 11 and larger
– Polo shirts/ golf shirts size 4XL or larger
– Men’s jeans size 36 or larger, especially sizes 42 x 32 and 46 x 32
– Boys size 5 running shoes for an adult man;
– Tall black leggings / sport style pants for women and athletic type tops women’s med-large
with mesh fabric under arms
– Black leggings woman small – medium
We have several high school volunteers who are well past their required 40 hours of service and
who told us they will continue to come as long as they are able. We are very thankful for these
very capable young people.
The next breakfast is on Saturday 17th February

St. Paul’s Food Bank. Our next food bank Sunday is this week, 11th February. As usual, they
will appreciate cereal, canned meat, mac and cheese, spaghetti sauce, Pasta, canned soup, baked
beans, canned vegetables and fresh produce like potatoes, onions, apples. They can also use egg
cartons (12 egg size), plastic and/or reusable bags.
