Outreach

Outreach for February concentrates on St. Paul’s Foodbank and our Breakfast Program.

Breakfast program
The team served 136 breakfasts this past Saturday morning. Our volunteers were out in force
that day – always in good spirits and helping our friends get a good start on the day. Many
students who initially start with us to gain their requisite volunteer hours stay on as they
experience the enjoyment in helping, socializing with peers and older volunteers, and learning
teamwork skills. Team members on Fridays and Saturdays work well together and are willing try
a new job if needed- shelling eggs, sorting donations, dish washing or serving porridge.
Then there are the “ghost volunteers” – our bakers who drop off their muffins and treats on
Sundays or mid week when we’re not there to say hello. To all volunteers- thank you – for your
caring spirit, hard work, and loving support for this vital ministry.
The next breakfast is scheduled for Saturday February 15th, 9 – 10.30 am. All are welcome to
come and see St. Jude’s at work!!

Other News

The 2025 Annual Vestry Meeting last Sunday was well attended with faithful and thoughtful
parish members, so thanks to all who were present, were satisfied that good work continues to be
done at St. Jude’s, and will continue to be.

Joanne’s message from last Sunday, in case you missed it:
There is no news from the Health Unit as far as any spring Covid vaccine clinics being offered.
If you have received the updates of Covid19 vaccine since September 30th,2024, another dose is
not recommended at this time.
Just FYI, if any of you are still not taking the wine at communion and are missing doing so, I
(and a few others) went back to taking the wine a few months ago. We have not become ill
during that time.
As you are probably aware, the Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) is reporting multiple
exposures to confirmed cases of measles in both London and Strathroy, Measles is not “just
measles”. Measles is very contagious and can be very serious. Anyone who is not protected
against measles is at risk.
Having had the measles, or two doses of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella/German measles)
vaccine, provide the best protection against the disease. Please check with your health care
provider to determine if you are in need of a vaccine. There is a blood test available to
determine immunity level. Please, please make sure all young people in your family have been
vaccinated, since most cases have been pediatric.
Most people born before 1957 have likely had measles. Vaccines were approved in Canada in
1963, and measles vaccination programs were implemented in the 1970’s.

Food Handler’s Certification. It is time to sign up if you would like to take the course for a
Food Handler’s Certificate. The course is one day and with 10 people we can do it here at
St. Jude’s. We would like to do it on a week day when the instructors are more available.
Questions or to sign up, contact the office at 519-660-6198.

Trivia answer: Christopher Wallis, a renowned Canadian artist in stained glass and sculpted
glass. St. Jude’s is fortunate to have several examples of his work.
