Outreach
St. Paul’s Food Bank. Our next Food Bank Sunday is this Sunday, 9th March. This time they
request that potatoes, apples and mandarin / clementine oranges would be most appreciated for
our next donation. Perhaps as well as the usual things?
Breakfast program
At our community breakfast this past Saturday, we served a new breakfast burrito with rice, red
lentils, tomatoes, cheese and eggs. This replaces the previous wrap that has eggs, cheese and
ground beef. With the change, we hope to improve the nutritional content of the wrap, provide a
more filling option with more flavour, and offer a choice that works for vegetarians and non meat
eaters. The initial feedback was promising so we’ll serve this a few more times before deciding
whether to add it permanently.
143 breakfasts were given out this past Saturday. It is through your generous support of this
ministry – financially, with prayer, donations of clothing and household items, that we can
continue to serve a nutritious meal and provide a safe warm place twice each month.
The next breakfast is Saturday March 15th from 9 – 10:30 am. Please join us and meet some of
those helped by your donations. Many thanks from all of us and God’s peace.
Fundraising and Social
FundScrip. Rick will be in the Narthex between the services this Sunday with your card orders.
Trivia!!
Once more, despite an awful cold and windy evening, it was a really enjoyable and successful
Trivia night, which has raised over $1000.00! Much thanks are due to Derek Shadlock and
David Belford for their hard work arranging and running this popular event!
Lunch!! Once again, the Men of St. Jude’s (plus friends) will be lunching at the Alibi
Roadhouse on Tuesday March 25th at 12:30 pm.
Metropolitan United Church presents Haydn’s Symphonic Mass in B Flat Major on Saturday
22nd March at 3.00 pm. Tickets are $25.00 available from the church, go to
https//www.choruslondon.com, and at the door.
Learning Together
Lenten series. Fr. Kevin will be leading a discussion series on three Tuesdays in Lent,
(18th and 25th March, and 1st April), about sharing our faith.
Also, he has posted this message on the church Facebook page:
The Heart Sees Further” – The season of Lent is an opportunity to be more intentional about
the spiritual life. Starting on March 5th, at noon, tune in to St Jude’s Facebook page for this
weekly, online reflection. “The Heart Sees Further” will develop themes meant to enrich our
lives as followers of Jesus. A new post will appear each Wednesday at noon. Through Lent, we
will consider the Prayer-Filled Life starting with a reflection on Ash Wednesday informed by
Julian of Norwich. After that, our Lenten theme will be informed by insights from Henri
Nouwen, Evelyn Underhill, Thomas Merton, the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing,
Agnes Sanford, Martin Luther, and Simone Weil. It is a genuine asset to be soaked in devotional
classics like these.
Please remember to check your Facebook page each Wednesday.
Let’s Celebrate
