St. Jude’s Boat. Newer members of the congregation may be wondering about the final hymn on
Sunday next, our patronal festival. You won’t find it in any hymn book and that’s because it’s unique
to us here at St. Jude London. It was composed at the request of then incumbent Rev’d. John Chapman
(now Bishop Chapman, retired, in Ottawa) as the new building was being completed in the early ‘90s.
The words were composed by Paul Maurice, an English teacher, and he went a bit overboard since
there are a lot of verses – we don’t usually sing them all. They were set to music by the then organist
and music director, Helen Poole, and this hymn has ended every patronal festival service since then.
Long may the tradition continue! Sadly, Helen and Paul are no longer with us, but they have left us a
musical legacy of which we can all be proud.

The Altar flowers this Sunday are a gift of Diane and Jonathan Townsend, in celebration of
St Jude’s Day, and the blessings of this St Jude’s parish family.

All Souls Day, 30th October. There will be a service of Remembrance and Holy Eucharist at
7.30 pm on this day. This is an annual opportunity to especially remember family and friends who
have died, and each year we pay tribute to parish members who have died since the last All Souls
service.
Please let Kathy in the office know, as soon as possible, the name(s) of those whom you would
like remembered at this service, and plan to attend in person to join in the prayers of
remembrance.

Outreach

Breakfast program
The team served 129 breakfasts this past Saturday. Thanks go to our volunteer who provides
frozen vegan chili and vegan casserole for friends who avoid the eggs, meat and cheese that go
into our regular hot offerings.
As the team switched out our summer clothing for fall / winter, it was evident where we need
some clothing and footwear. This week we are looking for: men’s winter coats L, XL and larger;
size 9.5 and larger men’s winter boots and shoes; men’s size 14 running shoes; men’s casual pants
and jeans all sizes as we have none; women’s 9 extra wide slip on shoes for a woman with
swollen feet; shampoo and body wash as we are completely out. Your generosity in sharing is so
appreciated by our breakfast friends who come from across the city to enjoy the hospitality you
help us to provide. Please join us anytime to see your good works in action.
Our next breakfast is Saturday, November 2nd, from 9-10:30 am.

St. Paul’s Food Bank. Sunday, November 10th, is our next Food Bank Sunday. Thank you to all
who contribute to this outreach, and to the Fairbairns for so faithfully delivering our gifts to the
cathedral each month.
