Learning Together
Lenten series. Fr. Kevin will be leading a discussion series on three Tuesdays in Lent,
(18th and 25th) March, and 1st April, 7 – 8.30 pm), about sharing our faith.
Also, he reminds us to check our Facebook page each Wednesday to see his posts on
“The Heart Sees Further”.
House meetings. Sign-up sheets for these are in the Narthex, with meetings at various times so
there should be one convenient for you. Take a look and sign up, this is an excellent way to get
to know your fellow parish members, and also Fr. Kevin, who is working hard at getting to know
the parish.
Walking the Way of Jesus. Dean Richard Sewell of St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem offers
two virtual reflections on living the Way of Jesus. These will be screened in the LGC Room,
Saturday 5th April, 12.00 – 1.30 pm, and 2.30 – 4.00 pm.
Outreach
March Outreach concentrates on the St. Paul’s Foodbank.
In your mailbox you will find the monthly calendar that the Outreach Committee puts together.
The members of our group also volunteer with many other organizations. We decide yearly as a
group which charities we wish to support. This can be a physical donation depending on the
month, such as socks, crayons, backpacks etc. We also take donations of gift cards. The articles
are taken by members of the committee to the organizations. The reason for the calendar is to
give people time for shopping and options. You may wish to give to one charity a year or none
at all but we will ensure each donation reaches the charity.
St. Paul’s Food Bank. Our next Food Bank Sunday is 13th April.
Breakfast program
At our last community breakfast, a regular attendee had some questions. Where did we get our
funding? Where did all the clothes, shoes, toiletries come from? This man has been coming off
and on since the program opened at St. Jude’s and yet did not know the answers to these
questions. He lives in the east side of the city and wasn’t sure what kind of reception he would
get in the “wealthy” north. He has been very pleasantly surprised that all who come are treated
with respect, kindness and a willingness to help with individual needs. The food is good and the
quality clothing and toiletries is great. However, what keeps him and others coming, often from
a distance, is the judgement free atmosphere of welcome and fun in a safe space. What a great
commentary on the program, and validates the work the teams do on a regular basis! And it is
only through the ongoing generosity of you, your family, friends and neighbours that we can
continue to provide this vital program! Thank you!
Our next breakfast is April 5th from 9 – 10:30 am. Please join us to have a coffee and meet some
of the wonderful friends and newcomers that come on the first and third Saturdays each month.
Outreach “C.R.A.S.H.” cupboard update.
For those who are new or have forgotten, there is a cupboard between the front doors that is
opened on the Sundays when I am there. (I will add that Andy S made this for us years ago so it
could be closed if only to keep things looking neat.)
The acronym stands for Conserve, Recycle, And, SHare.
We currently collect used stamps with 1/4” margins, pop tabs, used eyeglasses, toiletries and a
few other things. We no longer collect plastic bread tags, used greeting cards, used batteries or
plastic milk bags.
