Lent is coming, and begins with Ash Wednesday , 18th February. In preparation for the
service of Imposition of Ashes, the Chancel Guild is asking us to bring to the church our palm
crosses from last year so that they can be used to prepare the ashes.
There will be a basket in the Narthex to receive them.

Our next Paul’s Place foodbank Sunday is Sunday, 8th March.
Breakfast Program
140 breakfasts were served in spite of the frigid weather this past Saturday. Our next breakfast is
Saturday February 21st from 9 – 10:30 am. All are welcome.
Before Ash Wednesday, our annual tradition of the Pancake Supper, Tuesday 17th February,
from 5 – 7.00 pm – pancakes, sausages, local maple syrup, how can you resist? This is offered to
the parish and community, so come, bring your family , friends and neighbours. Donations are
freewill, and moneys collected will go to Alongside Hope for its work at home and overseas.
Reminders
“Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” returns on Valentine’s Day, this Saturday, February 14th.
As in past years, parishioners are invited to sign up for in-home group potluck dinners (6-8
people), with none of the participants knowing in advance whose home they will be going to or
who will show up. A great evening to socialize with friends you know well and also people you
want to get to know better. Always an evening of fellowship, great food, great stories and
laughs.
Lenten Study series Fr. Kevin will lead three sessions on March 1st, 8th
and 15th, in the St. Alban room after the 10.00 am service. 11.45 am to 12.45 pm.
New Preaching Series – “When Grace Grows Character” – Next week, Father Kevin will begin a new four week preaching series for the season of Lent, based on the epistle to the Romans. We will explore how God’s grace meets us as we are, shaping our character before we even try.
Lenten Series – “God on Mute” – March 1st, 8th & 15th in St. Alban’s Room, 11:45-12:45. Themes will be drawn from Maundy Thursday (“How can I get through this?”), Good Friday (“Why don’t my prayers work?”), and Holy Saturday (“Where is God when heaven is silent?”).
The Heart Sees Further – “Famous Conversions” – This week, a new, eight-week series called Famous Conversions will start on St. Jude’s Facebook page. Each Wednesday, a new, 5-6 minute reflection about notable Christian leaders’ experiences, shared by Father Kevin, will be posted. The diverse selection of leaders are: St Paul, Blaise Pascal, Sojourner Truth, Leo Tolstoy, Thérèse of Lisieux, Dorothy Day, Dag Hammarskjöld, and Simone Weil.
Pilgrim Course: The Commandments – The next, six-session series will run on Tuesdays, Feb 24 to Mar 31, online from 7:00-8:30 pm. We’ve had 18 people registered for the recent course on the Beatitudes with space for 20. Please speak to Father Kevin to register. Cost: $20.
